Beginning on Monday, October 21, the Clyde and Mary Harris Gallery at Walla Walla University will be showcasing a variety of artwork created by former and current WWU faculty members. “WWU Department of Visual Arts: Past, Present, Future” will invite viewers to explore the journey of the Department of Visual Arts and to investigate who the artists are as individuals and as a group. Two discussion panel events will gather artists to discuss their work and purpose.
The show is part of an ongoing celebration of the university’s 132-year commitment to excellent education in a Christ-focused environment, and the inauguration of its 24th president. The show will feature work from Brent Bergherm, Anne Bullock, Kevin Coleman, Tom Emmerson, Jerry Hartman, Shelly Henderson, Joel Libby, Ken Mackintosh, Martha Mason, Steve Miller, Vernon Nye, and Matthew Pierce.
The first discussion panel will delve into the past to offer a better understanding of where the visual arts department stands today, and will be moderated by Terrie Aamodt, professor emeritus of history. Panelists will include Dan Lamberton, professor emeritus of English; Pierce, former assistant professor of art; and Miller, instructor of ceramics. The discussion will be held on Tuesday, November 12, at 6 p.m. in the Melvin K. West Fine Arts Center (FAC) Auditorium.
The second panel discussion will look to the present and future of visual arts on campus. Panelists will include Bergherm, professor of design; Hartman, professor of film and visual arts; and Libby, visual arts department chair. Josie Henderson, instructor of graphic design, will moderate the session. The event will be held in the FAC on Monday, November 18, at 6 p.m.
The Clyde and Mary Harris Gallery, located in the FAC, is open to visitors from October 21 to December 13, 2024. Hours are Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m.–12 p.m. and 1 p.m.–5 p.m., and Fridays from 9 a.m.–12 p.m.
The FAC is located at 200 S. College Ave., College Place, Wash.
